Fairfax
Festival 2009: June 13-14, 2009 »
Welcome to the 32nd annual Fairfax Festival, Marin’s premier community celebration. The Fairfax festival embodies the values that are dear to all Marinites: community, family, social responsibility, sustainability, and, of course, a great party.
So join us for the parade at 10 AM on Saturday, then enjoy two days of celebrating the good things in life and in Fairfax. Hear great local music at three stages, shop for crafts and flea market treasures, enjoy fresh, wholesome food, entertain the kid’s in our expanded children’s area, and ponder social and environmental issues at the Ecofest. The festival offers something for everyone who attends.
This year’s theme is “Yes we are!” inspired by the “Yes we can” optimism of our new president. To show we are onboard this year we’re doubling our waste reduction efforts by making sure that the compostable plates, cups, and utensils used at our food and beverage booths are sent directly to a compost facility. In a few months the plate and fork you used at lunch will be reincarnated as garden compost.
Other “Yes we can” projects include new signs printed on recycled or compostable boards and eliminating plastic toys and prizes in the children’s area. And of course the entire community is proud of the town’s new regulation banning the use of plastic bags at Fairfax stores.
The festival is put on by a volunteers group of your friends and neighbors. We take special ride in being 100% volunteer group (no outside promoter needed). So come enjoy our hometown event, and be sure to support your local craftspeople, artists, flea marketers, breweries, and food purveyors. Richard Pedemonte, Festival Chairman |
