For Rudy Contratti, this year's Grand Marshall, this has been a stellar year.

2010 began with the New Year's Day proposal to his girlfriend of five years, Shara Randall. Not one to do anything conventionally, Rudy proposed in front of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse in North Carolina (but of course the wedding will be in Fairfax).

Rudy's two hobbies/passions are his extensive collection of Americana and pre-war bike restoration. Fittingly the couple's wedding presents to each other were "His and Hers" restored 1938 Shelby Airflo bicycles, one of which is currently on display at Iron Springs Pub.

Next came the Central Field "surprise". Rudy has lovingly maintained the ball field for the past 22 years. This year, following Rudy's "Band of Pranksters" traditional leading of the West Marin Little League Parade, his commitment was rightfully acknowledged as the ball field was renamed, Contratti Field.

Rudy has volunteered for the Festival for seven years. For six of those years he served as music coordinator, booking over 50 bands on the main stage and effectively running the show. While he has retired from organizing the music, he plans to still contribute by continuing to build the stage and backdrop as he has done for years.

Rudy was born in Queens, NY, and has lived and worked in Fairfax for 23 years as the town "Custodian", taking care of the parks, pulling weeds, dumping trash and keeping Fairfax the beautiful town that we love. He truly is the heart of Fairfax.
