Founded in 1982, Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) is committed to developing
youth and conserving natural resources for a strong, sustainable community.
Nationally recognized as a leader in youth service, CCNB serves an ethnically diverse
population of young people. Each year, approximately 120 corpsmembers (aged 18–28)
and 140 junior corpsmembers (grades sixth-ninth) participate in job training and education
programs that help them gain the knowledge, values and skills to become productive
and responsible members of their community and stewards of the environment.
Through community service and civic engagement, corpsmembers address critical
needs in the community. Each year corpsmembers play an important role in reducing
fire and flood hazards, constructing and maintaining trails, restoring riparian and
wildlife habitat, collecting recyclable materials and providing environmental
education to school children.
This past year, CCNB and its partners, College of Marin and UC Cooperative Extension, established the Indian Valley
Organic Farm & Garden, a 5.8-acre certified organic education farm and garden located at College of Marin's Indian
Valley campus.
CCNB now also provides recycling services for small and large scale special events, like the Fairfax Festival, in Marin
and Sonoma Counties.

The Marin County Bicycle Coalition (MCBC) is proud to be a part of
the Fairfax community for over 12 years! By Tom Boss
As the 2010 is going to be the “Year of the Bicycle” in Marin County.
We have major projects opening to the cycling community this year, including
the Cal Park Hill Tunnel, Lincoln Hill Pathway and the newly improved bike
lanes along Sir Francis Drake Blvd. at Olema Road in Fairfax. In addition,
MCBC has launched a Bike Locally campaign to get more people on bicycles to
stay fit, reduce air pollution, and become less auto-dependent.
But wait, there’s more!
MCBC received a $15,000 matching grant in January from the Dean
Witter Foundation, which means we can offer a one-year MCBC membership
for as little as $25. The goal of this match is to bring in 500 new members in 2010. We hit 200 in May. Please help us hit
300 in June by joining MCBC today!
Membership includes the Marin Bicycle Map, discounts at bikes shops, and a one-year subscription to the Pedal
Press, the best bike periodical in Marin. Plus, you get discounts at bike events, including the Marin Century.
With all these benefits, membership pays for itself, and you are helping make Marin County a model bicycle community
for the country. Our goal is for 20% of all trips in Marin to be made by walking or bicycling by 2020. You can help –
join MCBC today!
Please Support Re-Opening the Alto Tunnel: Sign our Petition at www.marinbike.org/alto
The Marin County Bicycle Coalition is seeking your support to re-open the Alto Tunnel. Re-opening the Alto Tunnel
will close the gap that currently exists for safe bicycle/pedestrian travel between Mill Valley and Corte Madera. Our
online petition describes reasons why the tunnel should be re-opened. Signing the petition takes about two minutes of
your time. Thank you for your support!
